The Fair!

Sorry, I forgot to post about the fair activity that I went to with our group Tuesday. The fair (which is really a carnival) was my first one I have been to in many years. There were many challenges leading up to the fair, but when it was actually time to go, it was a perfect storm of events that occurred that made it a very enjoyable experience. First, it had raid earlier that day, but was dry by the time we got there. The weather also brought a cold front which provided that perfect fall atmosphere. There also was very few people there that night which meant no standing in lines or long waits. We had food, went on rides, and even played skee-ball which Melanie ended up winning a prize! I did not sample as much food as I wanted, but I tried several things like: fries, nachos, cotton candy, and funnel cake. The nachos stood out to me because I am not normally a fan of nachos, but these were really good. Here are some pictures and a video of Melanie on one of the rides.

Working on Videos and A Cookout!

Sunday is my day to focus on my other channel Trojanpear's Sunday School. I have been working on transferring my series Pajama Preaching to the channel and today I just reposted it with its new cover art. Check it out:

I love this cover art with the piles of pajamas in the background that have been colorized, the cat holding the Bible, and the featured video picture which has our cat Lovie who passed away in April this year. The video is, in my opinion, not as good as the first since I laid my notes on the bed and would often look down which was not as noticeable in the first video. I also made reference that I was in Matthew 6 when it was obviously chapter 5. I did enjoy seeing the cats more in the video though.

I also started my Trojanpear's Sunday School playlist on The Trojanpear channel today by adding The Master of Ceremony Trilogy which is a series that related to my Sunday School channel. This playlist much like the Those Guys playlist serves as a way to introduce the other channels I have.

Before doing all this, I began my Sunday as I usually do by going to worship at Waldrop. The morning ended with a special Columbus Day weekend Cookout held by our group. We had 10 people show up which is about our group's average size.

The fun doesn't end with our group either. We are going to have another fellowship on Tuesday when we spend A Night at the Fair. What are you planning to do for Columbus Day? Picnic? Sleep? I'm Back to Blogging Again! What is Going On Now?

I am finally back to blogging! If you have been keeping track of what has been going on though my Facebook, Twitter, or Youtube pages, you will have noticed many changes lately. So, what exactly is going on? Well, let me start from the beginning...

I spent some time (like a year) at another church and during that time I created another channel called Trojanpear's Sunday School. My plans were to launch this channel for my Christian friends that I felt would enjoy a channel about how we did things in the church. There became a problem and the channel never evolved as I originally wanted it to, so I began debating what I needed to do about it. In the meantime, I went back to Waldrop Memorial Baptist Church and reunited with the Burgan Group as I took things I learned and began to apply them to our group for church activities and organization. During our rebuilding of our group, a project that me, Will, and Laban had been talking about doing finally was getting started: Those Guys From Another Dimension.

The Let's Play series is stylized like Mystery Science Theater 3000 where we play games and let loose our thoughts and opinions of whatever was going on. When Laban created the channel and posted the first video, I enjoyed what we got so much that it energized me to return to my own videos with a renewed interest in updating my own style.

The updates began with my own page, redoing the coverart of the channel and helping our Those Guys page look better. I then began posting coverart for my videos which I am still working on to date. This past week I made the major decision to go back to a format I had wanted to do at the beginning of the year but never really did because it was too hard, but I figured out a way to make it work this time. I would work on my series on set days of the week.

The plan to feature certain series on set days of the week officially began Sunday with Trojanpear's Sunday School. I decided to revive the channel and put my Pajama Preaching series on it as well as a new series coming soon involving our work in the church. Monday is The Monster Movie Tournament which I am doing most of my coverart work currently. Tuesday is Trojanpear's Cats which features my 2 minute videos about the odd behaviors of my cats. Wednesday is the new Trojanpear's Book Club which is being changed in a direction I think will better reflect what I want the series to look like in the future. Thursday is Those Guys. Now, I do not post Those Guys videos, but I am posting our Sound Test we did that did not have video that could be worked with. Friday is The Nintendo Power Adventure which has been finally been green lighted since I have a clear direction for the series now. Saturday is my day to work on other things like Trojanpear Presents until I start another series to be announced in the future.

This is what is going on and what I hope to have going on in the future. Seasonal Videos: A New Trojanpear Concept

I enjoy making my Trojanpear videos. It has brought out a creativity in me I never thought I really had. It has been a challenge though. Even as I learn more about making videos and improving the quality of my videos sometimes I run into difficulties whether it would be lack of time, opportunities, or complications in making the video that can produce videos that are less than I would like with my current level of skill. You may have seen this displayed in some videos where you see my progression, then there is a video that doesn't live up to the quality of the previous one. With four different series I have running as well as Trojanpear Presents specials every once and a while, I find myself trying to figure out how to get the videos done without spending all my time working on videos. (After all each series requires things like reading books, playing video games, watching movies, playing with cats, etc.) So, one idea I came up with to do is to limit each series to a seasonal timeline so I will not have to do to much at once while at the same time give everyone a planned timeline of when I will be working on certain videos. There are four seasons in a year and for simplicity, I start each season at the beginning of the month. So summer, the first season begins in June, continues into July, and August. The fall season is September, October, and November and the other seasons go likewise. Here is the planned schedule of series by season:

Of course, this schedule can change and some decisions still have to be made. This schedule also allows for opportunities for Trojanpear Presents Specials at anytime so look for those periodically. Now that I have shared this with you, I must look toward preparing for my first video for the summer. I will post again focusing on my first video for this new season. I hope you all enjoy. New Video Extra: Book Recommendations from Friends

After posting my Trojanpear's Book Club video yesterday, I wanted to discuss something relevant to the video that I touched on in the video. As you know, the book selection, The Normal Christian Life, was not my original choice for this month's book club book. I will do that book (series) at another time, but I did not do it this month because I was asked to read this book on a recommendation from a friend, and they wanted the book back when I finished. Well, I read it, but if you saw my video, I did not enjoy the book very much. This poses the question: When someone recommends a book to you, is it as good to you as they thought it would be? In my case while this did not work out well, I understand that is based on peoples interest in the type of book you are reading. As an example, my sister prefers romance themed books, so if I recommend to her a Godzilla book, she will probably not like it (or even read it).

I thought back to other times when I read books that were recommended to me, and I am surprised at how many of my favorite books were either recommended or read because I read a book that was recommended in the same series or author. These situations range from family members to internet reviewers. My mom thought I would enjoy books written by Dick Francis because the stories revolve arouind horse racing. My second grade teacher bought a book for me for Christmas that I never heard of at the time that she thought I would like. It was called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The strangest one was when netflix had its own critic who also had a blog. I read his blog regularly. One day he posted a different topic about a famous author who passed away that day. The author was apparently on of his favorite writers. He used a diffent name on this particular series. The name was Ed McBain. The series was the 87th precient series. He made the recommendation to his readers to try the book he felt was the best of them all: Eight Black Horses. For some reason, I felt compelled to check the book out and read it. It is now one of my all time favorite books and I am working on reading more books by Ed McBain. You may have seen several of his books in my collection in the video Bunnicula Series.

New Video: The Mitt Romney Big Bird Controversy

The Trojanpear has a new video on Youtube called the Mitt Romney/Big Bird Controversy. Now, while this may sound like a political video where I spout an opinion about the situation, it is not. This video was inspired by the comments made by Mr. Romney about cutting funding to PBS, most notably Big Bird, during the debates. It reminded me of an old recording I had of me, my sister, and a friend interviewing some of the things we had around the house. Of course, one of the things was a Big Bird stuffed pull string toy. What made it so funny was that my friend had such quick retorts to everything Big Bird said which was not much. For some reason Big Bird was only saying three phrases the entire time even though there was more he could say. We finally got him to say one more phrase before my sister got angry and took him away.

This video marks the first appearance of my longtime friend, Dan the Dragon. He may make more appearances in future videos, so be on the lookout for him.

The World According to Mister Rogers: Important Things to Remember by Fred Rogers

This short book of quotes and sayings from Mr. Rogers is the perfect book to pick up and read. It may be best read in daily readings one quote at a time. Just sit down, read a passage, and reflect on that passage for the day. In the video, I go over my personal favorites from the book. My top fourteen list will likely be different from your list of favorites mainly because there are so many to choose from. I hope you pick up this book and learn about the man who was our "neighbor." Also watch the video on youtube as I pay my respects to Mr. Rogers and Mr. Rogers neighborhood. Mr. Rogers was a great man who ministered to generations of children.
